So, the selection test, the subjects tested are maths, english and GAT (General Ability Test), if that's what you are curious about. Hmm.. maths- 25 questions (which are completely out of my mind) in 2 and a half hours, a total rush against time. The questions are tough (wei! you can almost half way giving up doing them, well, in my case!) Basically the questions are from form 4 and 5 addmaths and modmaths, but are of a HIGHER level, which require you to really think deeply to work out the solution (some even require logically thinking). Real tough, but what do you expect, singapore's level. I can barely do 15 questions, which is only half, others all blank. Sad case lah.. English, as expected, also a level above ours, comprehension (the passage is like three full long pages), vocab, and summary in 1 and a half hours. Then came the difficult part, write one argumentative essay or some sort of reflective essay (>350 words) given only 30 minutes. There are two questions ("Critically examine the influence of media on the youth in your society." and "Excellence should not be measured by academics achievement alone. What are your views?"). That type of essay, i figure that they want to test on our maturity of thoughts. Overall, i think i did quite okay, the essay i
chiong until the last line of the page and ended it just when the invigilator said stop writting, without much thinking seriously. The summary was a bit lack of time though (it's also quite different from ours, the points are far dispersed so you have to use your own words).
That was yesterday. Today, we sat for the GAT. Basically it's like IQ test. Those who are a mensan or have already taken the mensa test should notice that the questions are quite similar. All diagrams, not a single word in the question and the questions get harder as you proceed ( the last few questions kill!). It's like out of the 9 boxes, you have to figure out what is in the nineth box from the observation of pattern of the other 8. So, I think you get the idea. There are two sets. First set in three minutes, they are trials. Second set in 40 minutes (36 questions), which is the determining factor. I left 3 questions on both sets due to the lack of time,
tak puas la! And overall, it is testing on our speed, accuracy, observation and logical thinking skills.
The three papers tested, if you'd ask me, I shall say I did quite terrible (maths especially). Basically the moment you got the papers, there is a full speed ahead.
That aside, so now, some craps from my experiences. First, I have to say, I was thrilled when I received the letter to go for the selection test and certainly quite excited before the selection test throughout the week. Busying with the documents that i have to send in before the test, I went to school several times during the holidays, and even have to type out testimonial which including getting some remarks from the teacher, also because of that I have to decline on helping to sell the carnival's tickets at pasar malam.. sorry la you guys.
The recom forum turned out to be one of my favourite website ( the best forum, really, if you're looking looking for some scholarship forum), on which they discuss what shirts to wear, the format of the papers, etc... and of course the most interesting part was the plan to meet everyone there from the forum at the selection test (by the way my centre was in Sunway Pyramid). And yes, I even spent the night staying at one of the member house, who turned out to be my mother's best friend's son. Guess this world is just so small, haha. The other two members i have failed to meet them as you can see there were about 900 people in the test hall, excluding those from sec 1 and sec 3. In the midst of searching for them, I remember eyeing this guy wearing brown shirt in class 17 as what one of the members in the forum said he would be wearing. But then turned out, I was looking at the wrong guy, in the wrong class. LOL. The guy must be thinking why is this weird guy keep eyeing at me. haha. So yes, it's something great to be able to mingle with people coming from all over the malaysia. I have met 3 persons from melaka, 1 from ijc, 1 from roslan tuition and the other is gbs top student. And if you guys are thinking, yes haha, pretty girls, quite a lot. hahaha. Blek.. Please don't think I'm
miang. But too bad lah I didn't walk up and say hello to any of them la :D. Guess I am shy by nature. LOL. And the girl who did rather fast in the test sitting beside me, I didn't talk to her either, apparently everyone was so quiet there lah.
As to other fun parts of my experiences, i decided to keep it to myself XD. Why? you see this post has gone far long enough that nobody would even bother to read them haha.
This being a highly competitive scholarship, I don't pay too much hope on getting it la, considering how terrible i have done in the test. And mind you, I didn't prepare for the test =) But even if I really got the scholarship, I may just decline it.. Who knows? maybe i will get a better scholarship from JPA? Hopefully la.. Let's pray..

Can I say it's like a conference of smart ass genius? (except me)

The hall gets colder as you proceed during the test. I don't know, maybe it just applies to me?

Outside the hall. More than 1000 people had turned up for the test, including sec 1, sec3 and pre-u. The pictures are not mine, i got it from a friend there...
